WindCalc is an Excel based spreadsheet developed specifically for this purpose.
Welcome to WindCalc
Input your site details and building details and get a tidy 4 page set of printed output giving design wind speeds for your building and dynamic wind coefficients to support your engineering calculations all in accordance with the requirements of AS/NZS1170. In the spreadsheet you will find:
- An index sheet that leads you through the preliminary project setup and lets you describe your specific building and site detail including
- building plan and elevation dimensions
- building orientation
- the wind region at which the site is located
- the annual probability of exceedence under consideration.
- A Calculation sheet that accepts that input and permits entry of directional site parameters relating to
- terrain roughness variations upwind of the site
- Shielding objects upwind
- variations in topography
- Observe the developing wind rose of wind speeds evolve as data is fed into WindCalc
- Orientate your building relative to the cardinal directional wind speeds computed
- The resulting orthogonal wind speeds are computed for the nominated reference heights of interest.
Plus upon entry of the dynamic characteristics of your building WindCalc will compute
- The Along wind dynamic pressure coefficient in each orthogonal direction
- The Across wind excitation effects.
Save, store and restore your project for later modification or as the basis of future projects.

A full trial version of WindCalc is available on request. In order to continue using WindCalc you must purchase an ongoing license. WindCalc must be licensed yearly, and licenses can be purchased as:
